Description
Built from 1978 to 1981, this vehicle was intended for the racing circuit. While it enjoyed only moderate success on the track, however, the M1 proved to be an excellently refined and well-handling supercar for the private market. This is a 1980 model.

Any picture of a BMW M1 gets a

The reason why the M1 didn't do well in competition is that it took a long time for production to start and it was obsolete by the time it was homologated.
This happened because their initial partners took the money they got from a loan to start production of the car and spent it to build a prototype of a military vehicle instead. They did not get the military contract, they did not have any more money to set up assembly of the car for BMW, and so the partnership was dissolved, BMW had to start from scratch, and their former partner went bankrupt.
This is why, if I ever get close enough to the Lamborghini Cheetah prototype, I'll kick it. Hard.
