Looking at the name I guessed German and was right. The Tiger and I think the Panther used Maybach engines.

All German panzers used Maybach engines, except for the Czech-built 35 and 38's and their subsequent platform derivates.

The interesting thing is that the company founder, Wilhelm Maybach, actually wanted to build and sell cars as a means of demonstrating engine technology. He was focused on engine design, and then built all the models around it.

I guess all the history books & documentaries are starting to pay off. I never knew about the Maybach car thing though, that's interesting.

In fact, the ultimate Maybach cars were the Maybach Zeppelins, which used huge V-12 (nearly said straight-8... ^^; ) engines that powered Zeppelin dirigibles.

That had to be a huge car. Wonder if that engine will fit in my little truck?
:iconsamblob:
8-litre V-12? Maybe...
