Renault R35 Infantry Tank

Designed to replace France's World War I-era FT-17s, this light infantry tank was first deployed in 1935, following a speedy demand by the French government for faster production of new armored vehicles in the wake of German rearmament. It was never able to completely replace the ancient FT-17s, however, as only 1,600 of the required 2,300 vehicles had been produced by the time of the German invasion of 1940. Following the capitulation, a number of these vehicles were pressed into German service as Panzer 35R 731(f) reconaissance vehicles, while others were reconfigured into munitions supply tractors, self-propelled howitzers, and Panzerjager tank hunters.
