Description
One of numerous wartime designs to increase the mobility of artillery supporting the Panzer forces during "Blitzkrieg" warfare, the Geschutzwagen 38M Ausf K. "Grille" (Cricket), also known as the "Bison," was first introduced in 1943. Built on the chassis of the Czech-designed Panzer 38(t) tank, the Grille mounted a 150mm howitzer for mobile infantry support. Features of this highly successful design included a spring-loaded gun shield and a powerful engine. However, despite success in the field on all fronts, crew space was minimal, and the thin armor made most hits to the vehicle explosively fatal.
